Artist's Comments

For ~coolmarvin, also partly as my appreciation for him being my devwatcher since I first started here on devArt.

Part one of 3, this is how I draw stars in photoshop. KEEP IN MIND THAT I'VE ONLY USED PHOTOSHOP FOR ABOUT THREE WEEKS NOW, SO I ONLY KNOW HOW TO DO THINGS BASED ON HOW I'D DO IT WITH TRADITIONAL METHODS. SOMEONE ELSE MIGHT KNOW AN EASIER WAY, BUT THIS WAY WORKS QUITE WELL FOR ME.

This is the technique I use for [link] and [link]

Thanks for the tip, and I actually did started off using the dodge tool, but I found changing brush colour easier since I don't have to readjust anything. As far as changing brush mode, that requires two clicks while changing colour requires a single click on the swatch ;). Plus my traditional media background demands it.

Yeah, I know stars aren't really colourful, but you have to admit it's prettier when it's not real. Aesthetics and prettiness before realism, I think thats one of the underlying principle of anime and fantasy arts. It can't be fully unreal cause that's just going to become abstract art, but I think it's neccessary to 'enhance' things a little After all, when it comes to realistic spacescapes, Bob Eggleton once said, "How can I (a fantasy artist) compete with the Hubble space telescope?" :)
