Cow compass and microchipped mexicans

Mon Aug 25, 2008, 7:04 PM
Apparently some biologist was sufficiently intrigued by looking at cows (whereas the rest of us would know them mostly from the meat aisle in the supermarket) that they study the orientation of cow herds using Google Earth images [link] . Surprisingly, they find that cow herds on average faces towards magnetic north or south. Previous sensitivity to magnetism has been seen in animals such as migratory birds, but not cows, which aren't the physically active type and thus seemingly have no need to know which way's north. They still can't explain why the herds acts like a gigantic, methane-farting compass, so who knows, maybe it's the iron in their diet, or the cows have some strange rituals that we don't know (and probably don't want to know) of.

Still, you got to wonder how the biologist comes up with the idea for this study. Were they just looking at google earth and one day thought, "hmmm.... I wonder which direction those cows are facing".

On another note, affluent mexicans afraid of being kidnapped are getting themselves microchipped [link] . Just like cats and dogs. The company that provides this service implant a small, rice-grain sized microchip under your skin just like your vet does to your four-legged furry friend. However, here's the downside - since the microchip itself isn't transmitting or communicating anything, you still have to carry a GPS device which you still have to press in times of trouble; then it will tell people where you are. Which kind of defeats the purpose of the chip, since it seems you can just get a GPS equipped mobile phone to do the same job.

It probably does help in identifying your corpse should you ended up getting killed, but that's not much help, is it? But now that face transplants [link] are closer to becoming reality (anyone remembered that old movie face/off?) maybe it'll be useful in future stolen identity cases.

Well, drug dealers are ike crazy right now, and they seem to need new money sources.

Those who are really rich are getting that implant with gps u.u

Sad but true, this year, more mexicans dead due to drug dealers than persons in Irak

Yeah, I can only imagine how it is over there, but judging from what I read in the media (including the scientific ones) it sounds pretty bad. That article also said that the company who offered this microchipping service used to sell GPS-related stuff, until one of their company director got kidnapped and it gave them this idea, so at least their intention seems to be on the right place. Probably doesn't help much, though.
:iconserio555:
That's probably not too far off the truth, actually

Now you can use it to impress at dinner parties.

Well, it has always been insecure, the problem is that part of the police is corrupt and have been part of organized crime... this happens after 70 years of one party ruling a nation.

In the end chaos must reign before good people take over the crap that this guys left behind.

But it is also a problem, because drug demand in the US has gone down, and drug dealers are trying to sell it in here.

There will be a huge movilization on saturday and sunday, people all over the nation will go out and askfor security... so sad, but the government won't beable to do much in the short term, that's why people is looking for different ways to be safe, as those GPS stuff >.<

Greetings! ^^,
