In other news.....

Mon Mar 2, 2009, 12:15 AM
Apparently there's a fish with a transparent, liquid filled head with green barrel eyes INSIDE it's head.[link] Wonderfully freaky.

And we're one step closer to laser weapons, with the US making its plane-mounted laser. [link] Of course, the biggest question is not when we're going to see laser weapons on planes (that is, like, boring), but when we can get some frickin' sharks with frickin' laser beams on their head

On a more useful note, the Japanese have again bring us one step closer to (perceived) invisibility [link] Not quite harry potter (such a cloak of invisibility need to be made of something with a negative refractive index, which, simply put, doesn't exist... yet), but we're slowly getting there.

Moving on to sex-related topics, in what bound to stoke the fire of hatred-filled arguments between liberals and conservatives, a study has found that conservative states consumes more porn. Although not by much, which means that people aren't so different after all. The low percentage of the subscriber per thousand people to begin with tells me that most people would know how to get their porn for free [link]

On a slightly related topic, one of the blogs in New scientist [link] reported a new hypothesis on why humans have curly, bushy pubic hair even when our other hairs aren't curly based on the genetic relation between pubic hair lice in humans and gorillas.

Last but not least, Windows Vista has won the first FIASCO award [link] , beating runner up "SAGA", the Administration and Academic Management System of the Education Department of the Catalan Government. Whether or not it's well deserved is up for deebate, but considering the amount of processing power Vista consumes I think one of the comment in the blog I read summed it up: "Whatever Intel giveth, Microsoft taketh away"

Fish from deep sea are always so kick ass. If anyone searches for deep sea fish the results are always creepy as all hell. Nice to see invisafish added to that list.

Thank you, as always for all the awesome science-y news...and sharks with frickin' LASER beams = hurray! And brightened up my day.
Cloak of invisibility is the win (and pretty much how I would have done it, which either makes me feel smart or wonder if Japanese scientists are spying on me) even if it's not quite a cloak yet....
And the fishie, of course, was awesome. I posted the link on my facebook.

Serio, I love these journals of yours. I always learn new things, which I like!

I read an article about that fish. It looks so damn cool! The rest of them are new to me. The lasers and invisibility are very interesting and the pubes one...that was unexpected.

Yeah, too bad we won't be able to keep them in aquariums as pets :P
:iconserio555:
Yeah, extreme conditions always makes for interesting lifeforms.
:iconserio555:
Sharks = scaryly awesome; laser beam = nerdily awesome; the rest is simple logic for anyone who's gone to evil school.

As for the cloak of invisibility, those Japanese did say it's still a bit.... heavy at the moment, so if you think someone is spying on you just run away ;)

So is that the back of a bulbasaur on your image?
